Optic Disc

The optic disc is the central part of the retina where ganglion cell axons exit the eye to form the optic nerve. Also called blind spot, the optic disc is insensitive to light as it contains neither rods nor cones to respond to a light stimulus.

The optic disc is situated 3 to 4 mm to the nasal side of the fovea and is a vertical oval, with average dimensions of 1.76mm horizontally by 1.92mm vertically. There is a central depression called the optic cup.
